During 2022, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued several major policy proposals and new rules which could have a major impact on how energy companies are regulated by the Commission.

This white paper will examine four of the most important rulemaking and policy proposals the Commission issued during 2022. These include: the draft policy statements that the Commission issued to update the 1999 Certificate Policy Statement and to create an Interim Greenhouse Gas Policy Statement, subsequently redesignated as drafts in the first quarter of 2022; the Commission’s Transmission Planning Notice of Public Rulemaking; the codification of settlement certification authority by settlement judges;  and the Commission’s extreme weather notice of public rulemaking.
